If you watch almost any Youtuber, I’m sure that by now you have heard about Audible. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about and are completely lost…it’s a website that sells audio books.
I’ve known about it for quite a while but always said ‘Books are for reading, if you wanna listen to something…listen to music.’ In every Nicole Guerriero Vlog she shares the book she’s currently listening too. In my head I’d be ‘Girl, I love ya…but that’s one thing that’s not for me.
A couple of months ago, I started a Pinterest board for books that I found interesting. I looked through the list a few days ago and realised that the list was growing and that I hadn’t read one book since I started it. I needed to do something about it. I love reading but I’m just not getting around to it.
While doing some cleaning last week, dusting the shelves filled with books I’ve already ready, I had a light bulb moment. I realised that I could be listening to a book while I was cleaning. Just there and then, I got my phone and went to audible.com/nicole and scanned for my first download.
I initially went for Trevor Noah’s ‘Born a crime’ but decided against it because that’s a book that I’d love to own. I scanned some more and came across Taraji P Henson’s ‘Around the Way Girl: A Memoir’. What really got me to download the book was the fact that it was narrated by the author, Taraji P Henson, herself. I would still get to use my imagination but the picture I painted in my head would be closer to reality as her tone would provide more detail to the setting. So…I clicked purchase.
Your first book is free, so there would be no loss to me if I didn’t enjoy it. As I started listening, I was still in two minds as to whether this was something for me or not.
I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVED it!
I loved it because it doesn’t take any more time out of my day, I mean I already have enough things to do…people to see. I listen to Taraji tell her story while I’m driving, cooking, cleaning, hanging out washing and even while doing my hair. I even got Perrino into it.
If I’m at work and I need a pick-me-uppa, I put on my earphones and listen for a few minutes. When I my soul feels lifted, I continue my day.
I’m halfway through the book now, it’s a lot further than I would have been had I had to make the time to physical sit down and read a book. I still believe that there’s something relaxing about curliing up with good book, a silky soft blanket and a warm cuppa tea or hot chocolate, but in the busy and demanding lives we lead, there isn’t always time that. Audible is the next best thing!
Try it! The first book’s free! As they say ‘What do you have to loose?’
