Sexual abuse happens to often in the world and yet it’s one of the topics spoken about the least. The most I have heard it talked about, is when I hear people being warned ‘in case it happens to you or your child’.
It is such a sensitive topic and complicated. Complicated because the victim isn’t the only victim, every relationship is affected.
People who aren’t responsible at all, blame themselves.
The people closest to you, have questions that they don’t know how to ask: ‘Where was I?’ ‘Do you blame me?’ ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’ And honestly, in a face to face situation…it’s tough. There are so many emotions. Even writing these posts was difficult. Some of them I cried through…but I just kept typing.
Over the years I’ve gotten comments like ‘Wow, how did you survive?’, ‘You do know what happens to majority of girls that go through what you’ve been through, right?’, ‘Wow, you’re strong.’.
I have had psychologists tell me how proud they are of me and that ‘I beat the odds’.
I wrote these posts so that there can be more girls like me…more ‘success’ stories. I don’t consider myself to be wise, intelligent, strong person. Although…I do know that I’m not foolish, stupid or weak.
Your journey with me hasn’t ended yet…
I have so much more to say…so keep an eye on my blog for upcoming posts. 😉
